When it comes to content marketing, blog posts need to be an integral part of your marketing strategy.
But don’t just take our word for it; Neil Patel, content marketing legend, says, “if you’re a small business who is getting started with marketing, start with publishing blogs and evolve from there.” We couldn’t agree more. Because when you’re consistently publishing engaging blog posts, your business will experience the following benefits:
Benefit 1: Blog posts help to drive traffic to your website
If your website traffic is low – this is a sign you need to be blogging. HubSpot reported businesses that blog get 55% more website visitors than businesses that don’t.
How?
To explain that we’ll have to give you a whistle-stop explanation of search engine optimisation – search engine optimisation, otherwise known as SEO, is the practice of making sure your website appears in search engine results. The more relevant content you have, the more likely your site is to rank.
See where we’re going with this?
A blog post is an extra page on your website, which Google then indexes. And the more indexed pages you have – the more likely you are to rank in search results, increasing organic traffic to your site!
When consumers have a problem, their initial response is to search it. So much so that there are 5.6 billion Google searches per day. From an SEO perspective alone, you want to expose your website to any potential searches your target audience will make by answering their common questions.
Benefit 2: Blogs are a great way to share company news
It’s a well-known fact in the marketing world that it’s five times cheaper to retain your current customers than it is to target new ones. So, with this in mind, whenever you have an update that’s worth sharing, it’s a good idea to write a blog about it. Unsure what sort of company news you could write about? How about:
- When a new team member joins.
- New product/services.
- A business anniversary, milestone, or reflection.
Creating content for significant moments can engage your customers in between purchases. Which subsequently strengthens their emotional connection to your brand, helping you retain prospects whilst growing your business.
Benefit 3: Blog posts can help you to become a thought leader
No matter what market your business operates in, being recognised as a thought leader can be highly beneficial. If you’re not already familiar, a thought leader is an “informed opinion leader and the go-to in their field of expertise.” Being seen as one in your industry is a sure-fire way of putting your business ahead of your competition.
But how do blogs play a role in establishing your presence as a thought leader? Blogs offer you the opportunity to create valuable, long-form content that contains information that your readers won’t be able to find elsewhere, engaging your audience and building credibility. A staggering 78% of consumers will trust your brand if you create customised content that they deem valuable. So, if becoming a thought leader is an opportunity you’d like to take advantage of, you need to start posting blogs.
Benefit 4: Blog posts help to convert traffic into customers
As we’ve already explored, blogs can help your target audience find your brand as well as building a relationship with your existing clients. However, one of the biggest reasons you should be posting blogs is that they can turn traffic into paying customers.
Companies with blogs produce an average of 67% more leads monthly than companies without a blog. So, you cannot afford to miss the opportunity. Make sure every blog includes a relevant call to action at the end. This call to action could be encouraging a reader to take a look at your packages page, book a discovery call or view a specific product. And if you have no idea where to start when structuring your blog, we suggest you read this.
Benefit 5: You can repurpose blog content for social media
As mentioned, blogs can form the foundation of your marketing strategy by being a piece of content that you repurpose and leverage far and wide. There are two main ways that you can do this…
Strategy 1 – Drive people to your website
You can use your blog as a way to encourage people to click through to your website. To do this, in a social media post, communicate the benefits that a reader will experience when they read your blog post.
Will they learn something new? Be entertained? Or perhaps be informed about a new product you’re launching? Let them know these benefits via social media and drive them to your blog.
Top Tip: To do this on social media, we recommend grabbing the reader’s attention with the promise of what they will gain. Then lead into 2/3 bullet points that explain the key themes explored in the blog. And always end your post with a call to action (which will be to read the blog!)
Strategy 2 – Repurposing the content within your blog
Strategy 1 is excellent when the blog content is freshly uploaded. But what can you do when that blog has been live for a while? Repurpose the blog into other forms of content, such as social media posts. This way, you’ll have relevant, compelling content that will engage your target audience without them leaving their feeds.
